Javier Benito completed his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Cantabria Santander (Spain) in 1981 and his Ph.D. at the University of Basque Country in Bilbao in 1996. He completed his residency in pediatrics at the University of Basque Country in 1985. He has been a staff physician at the Cruces University Hospital, a Tertiary General Hospital in
Bilbao (Basque Country of Spain) and Director of their Pediatric Emergency Medicine Department since 1996. He is Associated Professor of Pediatrics in the Basque Country University. He is one of thouse responsible for the development of pediatric emergency medicine subspecialty in Spain as well as in Europe. He has been the Chair of the Spanish Society of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and the Pediatric Section of the European Society of Emergency Medicine. J Benito is internationally recognized as an outstanding educator and scholar. He has given multiple presentations at international meetings such as the Pediatric Academic Societies meeting over the past two decades. His main areas of interest are febrile infants, the management of asthma and quality improvement. He is author of more than one hundred of publications in indexed journals, several book chapters and edited an authored a reference book in PEM Guidelines. He is the chair of the consolidated group of excellence in research, “”Research and New Strategies for Improvement in Child and Adolescent Care in Emergencies”” of the BioBizkaia Research Institute and he has been member of the Executive Committee of Pediatric Emergency Research Network (PERN).
