CURSO 4 – FACILITATING FAMILY PRESENCE IN PEDIATRIC MEDICAL RESUSCITATIONS
Target Audience: Multidisciplinary team of physicians who care for pediatric patients
Overall Goal: To equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to effectively facilitate family presence during pediatric medical resuscitations
Course Structure: 4 hours
(1) Introduction and Icebreaker: 25 minutes
Welcome and Introductions: 5 minutes
- Facilitators and participants introduce themselves
- Facilitators provide content advisory and a reminder of the commitment to psychological safety.
Icebreaker and Initial Group Sharing: 20 minutes
- Word Cloud: Participants share one word that comes to mind when they think about family presence during resuscitations
- Share Your Experience: Participants briefly share a positive or challenging experience related to family presence
(2) Didactic Session: Family Presence Facilitator Curriculum: 45 minutes
- Presentation: 30 minutes
- Q&A: 15 minutes

- Clip 3 and Discussion (15 minutes): The Pitt, Episode 8, post-code discussion with patient’s sister
- Discussion (20 minutes): Participants share observations and key takeaways

(4) Breakout Sessions: 45 minutes
- Breakout Sessions (30 minutes): Participants divide into groups of 4-5 to discuss particularly challenging cases
- Large Group Report-Out (15 minutes): Groups reconvene in the main room to share and discuss key themes
(5) Wrap-Up and Action Planning: 40 minutes
- Final Group Sharing (20 minutes): Participants reflect on their experiences after the workshop and share key takeaways
- Action Planning Word Cloud (10 minutes): Participants share one action they will take to improve patient- and family-centered care
