Dr. Edbert Khong is currently a staff physician in the Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapies section at The Hospital for Sick Children. His research interests include patient safety in stem cell transplantation, quality improvement, and cellular therapies for both malignant and non-malignant conditions.
Dr. Ellen Duncan is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. She earned a BA in Chemistry from Princeton University, followed by an MD and a PhD in Neuroscience from Columbia University. She completed her Pediatrics residency and Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and is board-certified in both fields.
As the Program Director for the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at NYU, Dr. Duncan closely mentors fellows, fostering their professional growth and development. She continually enhances the curriculum to better prepare fellows for the complexities of caring for critically ill and injured pediatric patients, aiming to balance medical and procedural knowledge with holistic care of both the patient and their family.
Dr. Duncan’s primary research focuses on patient- and family-centered care and communication, particularly in acute resuscitations. Inspired by the loss of her brother in early childhood, she led the development of a novel Family Presence Facilitator Curriculum for pediatric medical resuscitations. This curriculum, presented nationally, includes a behaviorally-anchored simulation assessment tool to ensure optimal communication during these challenging situations.
Dr. Duncan has received several awards for her contributions to medical education, including the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Early Educator Award in 2024. She is dedicated to improving medical education and patient care, aiming to inspire and shape the future of pediatric emergency medicine.
Dr. Erik R. Su is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Section of Critical Care Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, and a cardiac intensivist at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, TX. He specializes in cardiac critical care for both pediatric and adult congenital heart disease, with advanced training in neurocritical care, resuscitation, and cardiovascular intensive care. Dr. Su is passionate about critical care ultrasound and imaging, serving as co-chair for the AAP’s Section of Emergency Medicine Point‑of‑Care Ultrasound in Pediatrics (2023–2026) and as a founding contributor to the Pediatric Research Collaborative on Critical Ultrasound (PeRCCUS). He leads educational programs domestically and internationally and serves on multiple editorial and committee boards including Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Pediatrics, Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine, PLOS One, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
Gisella Valderrama is a pediatric emergency faculty member at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C. She completed her Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and earned a master’s degree in medical education from the University of Cincinnati during her fellowship. She participated in the esteemed Quality Scholars program at the James M. Anderson Center for Health Systems Excellence, focusing on patient safety, healthcare delivery, and healthcare policy. This program provides strong methodological training in health research, quality improvement methods, and exposure to a wide range of high-impact study areas, including healthcare innovation.
As an educator, Gisella developed a curriculum on quality improvement science for the Latin American Pediatric Emergency Society. This project was successfully implemented across five countries in the region, demonstrating the scale of her impact. Javier A. Gonzalez del Rey, M.D, MEd., is currently Professor of Pediatrics, Chair Graduate Medical Education (GME), Designated Institutional Officer for ACGME (DIO), Associate Chair for Education and Director of the Cincinnati Children’s Pediatric Education Center at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC). He recently completed his tenure as Past – President at the Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD), and Past – Chair for the Executive Committee for the Section of Emergency Medicine at the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). He received his medical school education at the National University Pedro Henriquez Ureña (UNPHU) in the Dominican Republic, completed his pediatric residency at the University of Connecticut Pediatric Residency Program, and Fellowships training in General Academic Pediatrics and Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) at CCHMC. He is currently Board Certified in PEM. He completed a Master of Medical Education and Advance Training in Quality Improvement Methodology (I2S2). He has won several teaching awards at national and international level. He has held important leadership positions in PEM and Education including President at the Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD), Board Member at APPD, Chair for the Executive Committee for the Section of Emergency Medicine at the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and Chair of Education Section of SLEPE (PEM Latin America Society). He was elected to the US Medical Schools Alpha Omega Alpha Chapter and Golden Humanism Society for outstanding contributions to residents and medical students’ education. He was a member of the Workforce Committee of the National Academy of Science evaluating and presenting recommendations for future subspecialists in Pediatrics in the USA. Dr. Gonzalez del Rey’s major areas of interest include resident and subspecialty medical education – PEM national and for Latin America, and improvement science methodology applied to medical education and training.
Joanne Agnant, MD, MSc, the Associate Director of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) Fellowship Program at NYU Langone Health/Bellevue Hospital Center, joined the NYU/Bellevue family as a PEM Fellow in 2010. After completing her fellowship, she joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor, obtaining a Master’s Degree in Clinical Investigation at NYU Langone Health’s Clinical & Translational Science Institute (CTSI). Her professional interests include health professions education, including fellows, residents, medical students, and nurses. She also focuses on faculty development and process improvement, including advancing the fidelity and effectiveness of simulation programs. Dr. Agnant’s expertise includes workplace culture and wellness, mentorship, and providing compassionate and evidence-based care to all of our patients. As Associate Medical Director of the New York Simulation Center for the Health Sciences (NYSIM), Joanne supports simulation-based health professions education across NYU Grossman School of Medicine and the City University of New York, collaborating with our educational leaders to design, implement, and evaluate our programs with the overarching goals of improving health outcomes, health equity, and patient safety.

Kriti Kumar is a pediatric oncologist in the Solid Tumor Section, Division of Hematology/Oncology at The Hospital Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. Her clinical interests include caring for children with solid tumors, and she is currently completing a Master of Health Sciences in Bioethics at the University of Toronto. Her research interests include precision oncology in solid tumors and access to therapies and its bioethics.
Kymme Napoli holds a Master of Science in Child Life from Bank Street College of Education and is a dedicated Certified Child Life Specialist with over 17 years of experience providing direct psychosocial care to children and families. As a Child Life Specialist in the emergency department, Kymme employs evidence-based interventions; including therapeutic play, procedural preparation, and developmentally appropriate education, to reduce anxiety, support coping, and promote emotionally safe, person-centered care during medical crises. In addition to her clinical work, Kymme serves as a clinical supervisor for child life interns and is committed to training the next generation of child life professionals. She also serves on the MCH Bereavement Committee, supporting families following the death of a child. Dr. Leonardo R. Brandão is a paediatric haematologist staff of the division of Haematology/Oncology at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) since 2004. He is Professor of Paediatrics (University of Toronto (UofT) and Dalla Lana School of Public Health/UofT) and the Thrombosis Program director.
His main area of academic interest is paediatric thrombosis. He is also involved in global outreach activities with SickKids, promoting education and improvement of clinical care for children with thrombotic events from resource-limited countries, and responsible for the Takeda Latin American fellowship on Paediatric Haemostasis and Thrombosis.

Mark Weber is a Nurse Practitioner in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and a Clinical Instructor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. He specializes in vascular access, arterial line injury prevention, and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in critically ill children. She has held leadership roles in the ACGME’s subspecialty Milestones 2. and AAMC’s Core Entrustable Professional Activities Pilot Programs and is a graduate of the AAMC’s Medical Education Research Certificate (MERC) Program. Prior to joining NYU, Dr. Sagalowsky served as Director of Pediatric Emergency Medical Student Education at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons. She then came to NYU as Program Director of the PEM Fellowship, a position she held for five years before transitioning exclusively into the Vice Chair role. She is a graduate and former Chief Resident of the Boston Combined Residency Program in Pediatrics and holds an M.D. from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and an M.P.H. from Harvard University, where she also completed undergraduate studies in creative writing. Her medical interests include curriculum development with a focus on patient-centered and simulation-based methods, learner assessment, and physician wellness/burnout prevention.

Dr. Stephanie M. Marshall is an Attending Physician in Neonatology at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She earned her MD at the University of Louisville, followed by a Pediatrics residency and a Neonatology fellowship at Lurie Children’s. Board-certified in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, her clinical and research focus includes medical education and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in the NICU.
Dr. Tobias Straube is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and an attending physician in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Duke University Hospital. He earned his medical degree from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany, and completed pediatric residency at Tufts Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Duke University. Board-certified in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and General Pediatrics, his clinical and research interests include extracorporeal life support (ECLS/ECMO), hemodynamic monitoring, and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in critically ill children. He is actively involved in critical care education and multidisciplinary simulation training.
